Quick Card 1 - Thank Mew

Hello, everyone!  I'm still competing in My Favorite Things - MFT 2018 Creative Olympics! I am really enjoying Event 4 Speed Cardmaking, in which we are asked to make a card in 20 minutes or less.  Note that I am a slow crafter by nature so this was definitely a challenge.  However, it was actually freeing, knowing the timer was ticking away and the card had to come together quickly.  I made 6 quick cards and I will be sharing them all today, so stay tuned!

Here are my Tips for Speedy Cardmaking:
  • Plan your card in advance; sketch out a design and decide which stamps and dies will be used
  • Gather the intended stamps and dies and remove from packaging so they are at the ready
  • Clear your work area of all distractions
  • Have a limited colour palette; pull cardstock and colouring medium in those colours only
  • Have other necessary supplies within reach:  ink pads, stamp positioner, paper trimmer, die-cutting machine, adhesive, scissors, etc.
  • Do simple colouring and keep your card design simple
  • Don't worry about cleaning your stamps or clearing scraps from your desk until card is finished (I struggled with this one!)

Check out the MFT products I used:

  • Stamps: My Favorite Things - Cool Cat
  • Dies: My Favorite Things - Pierced Rectangle Frames (these were a gift from a crafty friend - thank you, Christina!)
  • Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Versafine Onyx Black
  • Colouring medium: Markers

So how long did it take me to complete this card?  I set the kitty timer for 20 minutes and I had 2.5 minutes left.  I could have finished sooner but I waffled on the placement of the sentiment. In the end I stuck to my original plan. Lesson learned, and I was better prepared for the next quick card!

My colour combo was inspired by My Favorite Things MFT Colors 87:
