To Brighten Your Day

Hello, everyone!  Today I'm sharing an encouragement card!  I used my new Lighthouse stamp from STAMPlorations, and I dusted off my watercolours!  First let me say that I am not very good at watercolour, and this card was my second attempt.  I'm happy I persisted, but there are definitely some things I would change if I had to do it all over again (for a third time, haha).  I think this card would be suitable for a man or woman, but I made it for a man.

Clear stamp: STAMPlorations Lighthouse - Large

I stamped the lighthouse on watercolour paper and then proceeded to make a simple watercolour background.  I stamped the lighthouse a second time, coloured it with navy watercolour, and then fussy-cut so I could pop it up on foam tape.  Before adhering the lighthouse, I sponged some Mustard Seed Distress Ink at the top to simulate the light.  I created a sentiment in Microsoft Word and printed on yellow cardstock; it is also popped up on foam tape.  I layered the watercolour panel on to navy cardstock to finish off the card.

The STAMPlorations blog is full of inspirational projects, and my card was inspired by a Spotlight Project post, "Becca Takes on the Ocean."  I was inspired by the lighthouse theme as well as the watercolour.  I have a long way to go to come close to Becca's creativity, but it was fun to play with watercolour, and I will definitely be doing more in the future!  I'm linking my card to STAMPlorations Spotlight Project Showcase.

I was also inspired by the April Theme and Sketch Challenge at STAMPlorations, which is Stamps and Watercolours, as well as the April CAS Card Challenge at STAMPlorations, which had an optional theme of Dark Navy.  Also linking to STAMPlorations Never-ending Anything Goes Challenge.

By the way, STAMPlorations is having a Spring Fling event from April 1 to 12 so head over and check out the beautiful spring inspiration! There are 12 days of giveaways! I'm linking here.

I would also like to support the following challenges:  Ally's Angels AG 1/3; Craft Stamper Take it Make It April AG Stamping 1/3; Creative Craft Cottage No Patterned Paper 1/3; Creative Fingers AG 2/3; DL.ART April Linky AG UE 1/d; Double D Watercolours 1/3; Get Creative AG No Twist UE; ITD Creative Playground AG 1/3; Jo's Scrap Shack AAG 2/3; Lil Patch of Crafty Friends AG 1/3; Love to Scrap Male Call 1/5; Penny's Paper-crafty AG 1/3; Simon Says Stamp No Designer Paper 1/5; Through the Craft Room Door AG 1/2; Tuesday Throwdown AG 1E; Word Art Wednesday 382-383 AG w Uplifting Sentiment 1/5 wk1

Your watercolouring is very good, Kitty!! I too find difficult work with brush and water, but your paint looks so beautiful and impressive! Love how you realized the light effect and the shadow on the lighthouse is just amazing! Wow! Well done!

Well, I think you did a fabulous job with the watercoloring and I love that gorgeous scene. No light houses around here but I always liked to view them in photos. They symbolize a safety net for humans when one thinks about or see them. I love the glow from the light too! And the shading on your card is perfect I think.

What a fantastic blog title for your incredible card, KT! Your shading is GORGEOUS, and the background is beyond fabulous, even though you say it is "simple". You only make it LOOK simple. I especially like the blue tones in the shading, and the intensity of the golden light. Beautiful! hugs, de
