I went with a holiday card this time featuring Newton's Nook Sweater Weather! Newton's Nook has sponsored the Cat Lovers Hop every year for the five years of the hop - thank you!
I started by colouring the adorable sweater kitty and mittens with my markers (Bic Mark-its and Dollarama Crafts) and then fussy-cutting. Next I created the inky background with Distress Oxides on photo paper. I layered several blues using the watercolour ink-smooshing technique and then dried in between each colour. It's best to work from lightest colour to darkest, but I didn't. When finished, it had a dull appearance but when wiped with a baby wipe, it became vibrant like you see here. I first saw this technique on a video here.
Next I die-cut the snowy oval (Memory Box Flurry Snowflake Frame) and then I dry-embossed it (Die'sire Embossalicious Let it Snow). I hand-cut a snowbank from white glitter cardstock (ColorBok) and layered it on the blue panel and then adhered the snowflake frame on top. Next I adhered the sweater kitty and the mittens, adding a die-cut bow from my stash. I heat-embossed the sentiment from the same stamp set in white on a dark-blue scrap and adhered it at the bottom right. Lastly I added three dark-blue snowflake sequins.

I'll have to look up that technique. I've hardly used my Distress Oxides. Not even sure what colors I have. xxD

ReplyDeleteKitty that is so sweet and perfect for the challenge. I used to put sweaters on one of our cats once she was over 20 years old and was losing weight just to keep her warm. She passed quite some time ago. I think that she appreciated them.
ReplyDeleteOne the foil cards I got the Minc Mini Foil Applicator which is like a laminator. My instructor said that not all laminators work with foils. She sold a laminator for about $40 and the Minc which is by Heidi Swapp is $80. It works great for the foil cards! Wished that you lived closer and could come over to play with me.
