The Hop to Stop 2

Hello, everyone! Today is the third day of The Hop to Stop. I hope you can join us! October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and this hop is designed to raise awareness about domestic violence, an issue that impacts one in four women, and the resources that are available to assist victims of domestic violence.

Purple is the domestic violence awareness colour, so any type of papercraft/mixed media art project is welcome, as long as it *features* the colour purple.  The linky is open now until 12 noon Central on Wednesday, October 14. Anyone can join - I hope you will be there to help raise awareness of this important and serious issue. There are over $500 in prizes from our generous sponsors. Please see here for more information and hop guidelines.

I encourage you to become informed about domestic violence, its impacts, and available resources. Please visit the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence.

Sadly three women are murdered every day in the U.S. by a current or former male partner.  With this in mind, I created a sympathy card.

I was inspired by Jennifer McGuire's faux textured metal technique here. I masked a watercolour panel and sponged Seedless Preserves, Dusty Concord, and Milled Lavender Distress Inks. I was going for an ombre look. I brushed white Perfect Pearls over the sponged area to create a beautiful luster. The panel was embossed with Couture Creations One World. I used Seedless Preserves and Dusty Concord Distress Inks mixed with water to add some splatter. The stamped sentiment is from Clearly Besotted Many Messages clear stamps.  I added a die-cut butterfly (Wild Rose Studio Butterfly Lace) and some black gems along its body. A tiny silver butterfly charm was knotted with American Crafts twine.  Lastly I added two gems in opposite corners.  Here's a photo showing the sheen from the Perfect Pearls.

I would also like to join the following challenges: Allsorts Nature 1/3; Beccy's Place October AG UE; Butterfly Challenge Butterflies plus K for Knots 1/3; Craftin Desert Divas Things with Wings UE; Crafting by Designs October AG 3/3;  Crafty Gals Corner Things with Wings 2/2; Creative Ladybirds AG 2/3; Cut it Up Back to Nature 1E; Die Cuttin Divas AG 2/3; DL.ART October Linky UE 1/day; DRS Designs Heavy Metal (charm) UE; Fresh Brewed Blog The Great Outdoors 4/5; Inspiration Destination AG UE; Jo's Scrap Shack AG 3/3; Just Keep on Creating AG UE; Mod Squad Things with Wings UE; Not Just Cards AG UE; Papertake Weekly Take Your Pick: Distress Inks 5/5; Simon Says Stamp Monday Ombre 2/5; Simon Says Stamp AG 5/5; Simon Says Stamp World Card Making Day 1E; Suzy Bee's Bloomin' AG Embossing Wet or Dy (I used dry) UE; Sweet Stamps October AG UE; The House That Stamp Built Repeat Impressions WIW September Anything Goes 3/3; Wags n Whiskers Use a Die Cut 2/2; Wednesday's Creative Inspirations AG Option Sketch UE; Word Art Wednesday AG w Uplifting Sentiment 4/5

  1. BEAUTIFUL card Kitty, love the technique you used and that gorgeous butterfly is a symbol of freedom from this act that is put upon people.
Thank you for your wonderful words of comfort. Yes, I miss my dad so much and he is put to rest on Wednesday 7th, it will be so lonely without him nodding in approval of my colouring and cards and mostly his smile as I was with him everyday for four years....a long time then nothing but memories and beautiful people like you .xxx

  3. What a sad statistic. Three are murdered every day in the US. I love your background and the butterfly just seems to set everything free. Who knew purple would make such beautiful cards for a sad subject.

  5. This is looking gorgeous, Kitty, and the colors are a great choice for a sympathy card. Love the faux metal background and the beautiful splatters surrounding it. Well done!

  6. So good you are sharing more creations for this worthy cause. Just last week a lady was murdered by her husband and they had a 4 year old daughter too. We kept discussing he could have just divorced her instead of committing such a heinous crime. The sad part is that many societies accept wife beating as part of normal life. I will try and link up more too.
